Abstract: |
Southern Water were proposing to extend Swalecliffe Wastewater Treatment Works which prompted the evaluation. A programme of archaeological investigations was carried out which consisted of the acquisition and analysis of palaeoenvironmental samples and trial trenching. The results suggested that parts of the proposal site retained the potential to provide significant fossiliferous and artefactual information. An intact sequence of water-laid sediments was observed, similar to one recorded earlier in the century at the exposed cliff edge, and one truncated prehistoric feature containing pottery was located.
