Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of trial pits and foundation trenches for a new post office, within the early medieval town of Stratford-upon-Avon. Little archaeological work had been carried out in the vicinity, although a medieval pit or post hole and post-medieval structures had been recorded at two sites nearby. During the watching brief, post-medieval cellars, a cess or quarry pit of 18th century or later date and a small number of 18th-19th century artefacts were revealed. It was concluded that any archaeological deposits at the site had probably been destroyed during construction of the previous post office. [Au(adp)] |
