Abstract: |
An emergency watching brief was undertaken of a trench excavated unknowingly through the line of Hadrian's Wall. The landowner, Petro Designs Limited had failed to apply for Scheduled Ancient Monument consent, but having been informed of the offence, co-operated fully with Tyne and Wear Museums to ensure that a detailed record of the trench was made. This revealed that Hadrian's Wall had not survived in this location, but the northern end of the trench revealed soil horizons associated with post-Roman agricultural activity. [Au(adp)] |
