Abstract: |
Geophysical survey and trial trenching were undertaken on the site of Hopecarr Hall. The initial medieval phase comprised a square moated platform, with possibly timber framed buildings. A second moated enclosure was added to the north c.1650-1700, with a brick house and ancillary building being built on the southern platform. In c.1780 a new brick house was built outside the original moat and the earlier house was presumably demolished at a similar time. [Au(abr)] |
