Abstract: |
<summary>A survey was undertaken of land holdings which were subject to proposals for inclusion within an Environmentally Sensitive Area scheme. No prehistoric settlement or evidence of ritual activity survived within Trevessa, although it was thought that a prehistoric settlement might underlie the present hamlet, and the current field system was shown to be based on several prehistoric field systems. Several clearance heaps, cliff-edge boundaries and lanes with possible prehistoric origins were also identified. The enclosure of the commons into privately-owned crofts was found probably to have taken place during the Medieval period, and other smaller features of medieval date identified included a cross base, the site of a cross, and a mortar stone probably from a tin stamping mill. A lane, a footbridge, a sheep-creep, an area of willow gardens and a field barn were identified as being of post-medieval date. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
