Abstract: |
In order to fulfill conditions for planning and Listed Building consent an archaeological survey of the building was commissioned. The work included a photographic survey of the exterior and interior of the building, and the recording of various internal features. The surviving structure at Thorpe Mill appeared to be part of a woollen mill complex constructed in, or shortly before 1824 and replacing an earlier, smaller building. It was powered by a waterwheel housed in a separate building, to the east, located at the head of a mill pond. The surviving structure was well preserved. Despite the apparently extensive removal of fittings, the building survived as a good example of a part of an early 19th century textile mill. [Au(adp)] |
