Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment was carried out as a planning condition prior to development. The SMR contained only four sites located within or in the immediate vicinity of the study area, including a tramway, New Coalmoor Pipe Works, Doseley Quarries and Woodlands Farm. The site once formed part of the medieval royal Forest of Mount Gilbert, but there was no evidence of archaeological activity before the post-medieval period. It was recommended that an intensive walkover survey is undertaken to investigate any surface features, and subject to the results of this there might be a requirement to undertake evaluation trenching. In order to assess the mitigation option for the farm complex it was recommended that a RCH (E) Level 1 survey be undertaken of the buildings. Any further recording of the buildings depended upon the proposed impact of the development on the buildings and the results of this initial survey. [Au(abr)] |
