Abstract: |
The desk-based assessment indicated that there had been human activity in the area since the Mesolithic period. There were a number of Bronze Age burials within and around the study area. A large Roman building was recorded to the south of the study area. During the medieval period the site seemed to have been part of the open field of the Manor of High or West Swindon. The area was apparently enclosed shortly after 1684 when it was sold to the new Okus Farm. The site was subject to extensive quarrying during the post-medieval period, which continued into the 1950s, when the hospital was built. This had probably destroyed any archaeology. [Au(abr)] |
