Abstract: |
The assessment considered the results of an excavation on the site, which had identified the principal, and forehall at Ribchester in 1906-08. Ribchester had one of only a very few recorded examples of a 'forehall' or cavalry drill hall (basilica equestris exercitatoria) in Britain. The forehall was unusual in only incorporating the via principalis directly in front of the principia. More commonly, these forehalls extended in front of adjacent buildings. [Au(abr)] |
