Abstract: |
A survey was undertaken on Surrender Chimney to produce a 1:50 scale plan of the chimney and a 1:100 scale location plan showing the flue for approximately 25m in either direction. Limited documentary research was also undertaken. The chimney was constructed in c.1841 as part of the new Surrender mill. It continued in use as a chimney until the flue was extended at some point after 1854, when the chimney was incorporated into the extended flue system. The suggestion that the chimney was converted into a condenser was discounted. [Au(abr)] |
