Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken in advance of the development of a multi purpose hall, theatre extension, and related works. The report concluded that the proposed development lay in an area which may be characterised as having a low to moderate archaeological potential. The areas where new development would have a substantial ground impact were comparatively limited in extent. The potential of these areas should ideally be tested by archaeological evaluation prior to the commencement of development, but this was not practical at the present stage of the works. A watching brief on the reduced level dig of the basement area and on the excavation of the foundations for the extension should, however, allow the opportunity to observe and record any archaeological evidence that might be revealed. It was therefore recommended that these works should be subject to an archaeological watching brief. [Au(adp)] |
