Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out during groundworks for construction of three new terraced houses with garages and parking at the rear. Although situated in a prime position on the south side of The Street, in the historic core of Sissinghurst village, literally a few miles away from the known route of the Roman road from Rochester to Hastings, nothing of archaeological importance or interest was revealed on any part of the site. The site had clearly been disturbed by the construction of the previous Russell's Garage which involved deeply placed fuel tanks which could have removed any archaeological remains. [Au(adp)] |
