Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out during groundworks for a new warehouse and ancillary office. Despite the fact that almost the entire area of the new development had been quarried of good quality Upper Brickearth prior to the mid 19th century, evidence of Murston's industrial heritage in the form of an intact brick clamp/kiln had survived relatively intact. The clamp/kiln was one of the earliest types of brick kilns to survive spanning back at least into the early medieval period. Apart from the kiln, no other archaeological deposits were encountered during the duration of the work. [Au(adp)] |
