Abstract: |
Trenches were excavated at a site conjectured to be a raised moated platform to locate the moat, and to test the credibility of the platform being artificial. Natural geological and topographical features seemed to account for what was interpreted as a moat in a 1992 excavation. Limited structural evidence associated with the site of the farmhouse within the development area also added little weight to its rank as a medieval hall. However, pottery discovered in a pit to the south of the house foundations yielded both valuable dating evidence for the site, and increased its archaeological potential. [Au(abr)] |
