Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation and a watching brief was carried out at the site. Deposits of archaeological interest were observed in all trenches excavated and archaeological features associated with R Stephenson and Co Locomotive Works were observed on land occupied by J T Dove's builders merchants. In places these were located immediately below existing floor surfaces though more deeply stratified features were also observed. Walls and floors associated with a 19th century glass works were observed beneath the forecourt of Patterson Ford. [Au(adp)] |
