Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a proposed development site which lay within the area of a medieval suburb of Northampton. Drains, medieval pottery and two phases of building dating from the mid-13th to the 17th centuries were recorded. Foundations relating to 19th century houses were also found. A further building of probable 19th century date, associated with a tanning pit and a drain, was recorded, and two pits of uncertain purpose were revealed. One of two former river courses known to have crossed the site was observed, and was shown to have been preceded by a wider channel which had silted up in the medieval period. [AIP] |
