Abstract: |
The excavation of the by-pass channel was monitored. The trench exposed a sequence of deposits including a waterborne deposit and a lower organic deposit containing preserved wood. This lower deposit was extensive and appears to fill the lower portion of an old water course. No dateable artefacts were recovered from this deposits. No definite dating for the bridge was obtained during the watching brief, though it is thought to be Victorian, as it was in this period that the land parcels on either side were merged under a single ownership, probably post-1851.
