Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of foundation trenches and bases for support pillars at a re-development site. Evaluation of a nearby site had revealed Roman remains surviving at a depth of 0.4m below the present ground surface, whilst sections of defensive ditches and evidence of at least two cemeteries of Roman date had been recorded in the vicinity. During the watching brief, a north-east to south-west ditch was observed. It was not possible to investigate this, due to time constraints and hazardous working conditions. No further archaeological features or finds were seen. [AIP] |
