Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during groundwork. Although the site was thought to have had archaeological potential, the watching brief produced nothing of an archaeological nature in the areas exposed during excavation operations on-site. It did seem that the site had been cleared and only roughly levelled during the late 19th or early 20th century prior to the building of Orchard Cottage. Similarly, no artefacts were recovered from the site as a whole. It was recommended that any further development in this general area should be subjected to archaeological coverage as clearly this fell within an area generally rich in archaeological potential.
