Abstract:		 An excavation and watching brief was undertaken prior to and during redevelopment of the site for an infill extension and student common room. A previous observation on the site had revealed a Saxon pit and stakehole. Trench 1 contained one modern linear feature and two modern stakeholes. Trench 2 contained an early modern features; possibly a re-cut of an earlier feature. Trench 3 contained an undated stakehole and early modern/modern brick and stone walls. Trench 4 contained two intercutting Saxon pits which yielded Iron Age, and imported Saxon pottery, glass, a metal object, and worked flint. In addition, Trench 4 contained early modern/modern brick and stone walls, and re-used worked stone. Subsequent to the excavation a watching brief was conducted on the foundations and service trenches: Trench 5 contained a Saxon pit yielding a worked animal bone 'pin' and a post-medieval pit, possibly a re-cut of an earlier feature.
