Abstract: |
The site was most recently occupied as a car park, and had been, at the end of the 19th century, a tannery. The study area was also thought to lie within a medieval borough as described in the late 12th century Red Book of the Bishop of Hereford. Although few in number, the animal bones and horn cores recovered from the tan yard provided useful information regarding the morphology of the cattle during the post-medieval period. The horn cores represented the kind of deposit that was expected in an industrial area of a town where tanning and allied trades such as horn-working would have been practised. No deposits or structures of a definitely medieval date were observed. [Au(abr)] |
