Sites of archaeological and historical interest identified within an area proposed for an office development included: a driveway entrance and one of a pair of accompanying structures (possibly lodges), together serving the Royal Fort House (built in 1760); a house of no later than 17th century date which may once have been an inn; and the possible remains of a 1643 fortification known as Essex's Work or Fort.
