Abstract:
A trench was excavated in advance of the construction of a dwelling within the medieval and post-medieval village of Warmington. Early-middle Saxon activity had been noted near the site, and medieval pits had been recorded a short distance to the north. The excavation revealed slots relating to a medieval structure in the vicinity of the Chapel Street frontage, as well as truncated boundary ditches, a post-hole, a pit, a gully and the side of a possible quarry. Thirteen fragments of medieval or early medieval pottery and a single Roman sherd were recovered. 19th century pottery and clay pipe fragments were also found. It was noted that extensive post-medieval truncation had occurred on the site. [AIP]
