Abstract:
The evaluation consisted of 134 trenches. Previous investigation by Oxford Archaeology in 2002 immediately to the east had uncovered evidence for a Romano-British settlement. Ridge and furrow was extant in one pasture field, and crop growth showed areas of previous earthworks. Two ring ditches, probably round barrows, were identified and dated to the early Bronze Age. A middle Bronze Age palstave was located in a medieval deposit. A Late Iron Age settlement was also encountered, followed by Romano-British pits, post holes, quarries and linear features. Saxon pits, banks, ditches, post holes and other earthworks were noted, as well as medieval or later quarries and a track and a post-medieval field boundary. [Au(adp)]
