Abstract: |
A desk based survey and impact assessment was undertaken on the preferred, alternative and rejected routes of the road improvement scheme. Prehistoric and Roman remains were present in the surrounding area but no significant re-deposited archaeological surface finds were identified or recorded. The study discussed the historic landscape, and associated features, but includes possible archaeological sites of former medieval, and post-medieval, buildings and industrial sites, including clay pits and an early C19th brick tower windmill. Other sites include other possible buildings, possible industrial activity, a milestone, ecclesiastical parish boundaries and 12 tracts of ancient woodland. [Au(abr)] |
