Abstract: |
Within a report on the St Just Mining District Survey the one landscape management project identified as being most needed to enhance the appearance of the district as a whole was the clearance of the extensive and ugly landfill site which blighted the dramatic cliffland between Botallack and Kenidjack Head, and which impinged upon sites of archaeological, ecological and mineralogical importance. The site was purchased by the National Trust who undertook the clearance and re-landscaping of the site while Cornwall Archaeological Unit undertook a watching brief to record any archaeological features relating to the use of the site as a mine in the late 19th century. Whilst no archaeological features were revealed during the exercise due to a limited budget, the area was cleared and the potential for the discovery of archaeological remains in the future acknowledged.
