Abstract: |
Consultation of documentary and map-based archives identified that the study area lay in an area that was intensively used for the Romano-British production of Malvernian and Severn Valley Ware. This was the most important pottery industry for the Roman period in the region and produced the majority of pottery found on Roman sites in the West Midlands and beyond. In addition a kiln was excavated at Newland Hopfields, just 400 metres to the south-east of the study area. Several 17th century timber-framed buildings were known to exist along the Lower Howsell Road frontage, which were probably part of post-medieval ribbon development along the road.[Au(abr)] |
