Abstract: |
The survey aimed to provide a brief, comprehensive archaeological overview of the property. This was found to be essentially a post-medieval agricultural and extractive landscape that had gradually extended further in to the coastal rough ground. The improved ground contained a number of stunningly faced boundaries, presinting a curious aesthetic touch to the environment. It also appeared that the coastal margins were once divided and grazed, and were once the focus of quarrying activity that exploited the local black slates. Closer to Boscastle Harbour, across the ridge of Penally Hill to Penally Point the coastal rough ground had a localised maritime context, with a number of sites and fetures relating to the port and its activity. Management recommendations were of a general nature and included scrub clearance, the reintroduction of grazing and comments on boundary repairs. [Au(abr)] |
