Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during groundworks for the construction of a new extension, to replace an earlier extension which had been demolished due to subsidence. The excavation revealed evidence for a pond, which was known on 18th and 19th century maps as Goose Pool, and which had been referred to in medieval documents. Several sherds of 17th-19th century pottery, fragments of animal bone, three pieces of bottle glass and two clay pipes were recovered. It was concluded that no development had occurred in the area until after the infilling of the pool, which may have taken place as late as the 18th century. [AIP] |
