Abstract: |
It would seem that All Saints' churchyard had a complex history of use. Inspection of the GPR radargrams showed much disturbance across the site. It proved near-impossible to define individual burials within both the time-slices and radargrams, but it seemed fair to suggest that there was a dense pattern of internment. Well-defined, high amplitude centres were identified in the time-slices, which were unlikely to be natural and as such may have represented the most substantial burials [possibly even stone or lead caskets]. In some cases these could be associated with the remains of memorials, later removed at ground-level. A few small high-amplitude responses were tentatively identified as possible features relating to earlier structures which were believed to have occupied the site. This interpretation should be viewed with caution however, as the analysis was based solely on their position. Radargrams from inside the church failed to reveal any features of archaeological significance. [Au(adp)] |
