Abstract: |
The primary aim of the excavation was to build a clearer picture of the archaeology of the site to ensure nothing of archaeological value was destroyed by development. The excavation shed important new light on the medieval town defences, demonstrating how the rampart was formed from upcast clay, dumped on an existing ground surface and that it was later surmounted by a stone wall which matched the description of that constructed by King Richard III.
