Abstract: |
An evaluation was undertaken in advance of a proposed planning application to develop land north of Garth Lane. The site lay within an area of known remains dating from the prehistoric to post-medieval periods. A map of c.1600 showed buildings and an associated track way occupying the southeast corner of the site close to the West Haven. The evaluation identified the presence of medieval deposits comprising 12th century flood layers, and 13th-15th century dumped materials, a ditch, pits and a cobbled surface. These features were contemporary with the construction and development of the West Haven waterfront. Post-15th century deposits had been completely removed by later development. [Au(abr)] |
