Abstract: |
<summary>A desk-based assessment of Camelford and its environs established that Camelford was set within a predominantly medieval landscape, with all the major farmsteads in this area first recorded in the Medieval period and with surrounding field systems which had suffered little boundary loss. However, placename evidence also suggested a densely-settled farming landscape before the Norman Conquest. Prehistoric sites in the area included a group of Bronze Age ritual cairns close to a standing stone and the remains of an Iron Age/Romano-British round. A number of settlements originating in the Post-Medieval period were identified, and industrial activity of post-medieval and later date included a number of mills. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
