Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in response to a condition upon the residential development of the site. The evaluation involved the opening of two trial trenches and revealed no evidence of human activity on the site predating the 19th century. A large proportion of the southern half of the site had been disturbed by works associated with the railway line which crossed it and part of the northern half had apparently been damaged by the foundations of modern buildings. In all parts of the site where such modern disturbance had not been so severe and the subsoil had survived, this was found to contain modern pottery and other items which were consistent with its known recent historical usage as agricultural land. No finds or features apparently earlier than the 19th century were identified and no further archaeological work was recommended in connection with this development. [Au(abr)] |
