Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment revealed that the site had high archaeological potential and previous investigations had revealed activity dating from the Palaeolithic onwards, with particularly intense occupation during the Neolithic and Late Bronze Age. A number of cropmarks of field systems, enclosures and ditches had been identified within the wider Study Area, but there were no SAM's or Listed Buildings within the site. Within the site a possible Bronze Age cemetery, a possible Roman building, and the post-medieval Manor Farm itself, which may have had medieval origins were noted and there was a high potential that more would be present. The survival of any archaeological deposits or features will depend on the previous impacts caused by the construction of the Sewage Works. As the site lay within an area of alluvium, thought to be from the roman period, good preservation was probable. [Au(adp)] |
