Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during shaft capping and land reclamation works at a forming mining site. Work was observed at eight shafts. Although surface remains around the shafts were poorly preserved, those which were deeply buried were found to have survived reasonably intact. Features identified included early load workings, timber shaft linings, and a late 19th century tunnel connecting one shaft with an adit system. [Au(adp)] |
