Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief of an area to the north of St Mary's Church, Overton, was made part of conditions for planning permission for new meeting and function rooms. The watching brief discovered that burial on the north side of the church seemed not to have begun to any extent until 1790 and had ceased by the 1880s, with the exception of a single 20th-century grave. Earlier activity at the site was discovered in the form of an extensive scatter of medieval quarry pits dating from the 11th/12th centuries to the 13th/14th centuries. The infill of these pits indicated that the area had also been used as a work area for building activity. [Au(adp)] |
