Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out during the reduction of the present ground levels within the planned footprint of the new dwellings to that of formation height. The lowest deposits observed comprised of dumped Victorian material, although not excavated material observed was of 19th century date. Other remains were that of modern buildings consisting of a floor and chimney foundations presumably representing the old forge buildings previously present on the site. The lack archaeological remains could have been due to the shallow nature of the foundations and there was potential for survival of archaeology in deeper deposits. [Au(adp)] |
