Abstract: |
An assessment was made of the archaeological and historical importance of a hedgerow in advance of its proposed removal. Five archaeological sites had been recorded in the vicinity, comprising a number of tile kilns, a Roman trackway and the findspots of Romano-British tile, pottery and a quernstone. The boundary along which the hedgerow ran was depicted on a map of 1765, and thus represented part of a field system pre-dating the Enclosure Acts. No other hedgerows shown on the map had survived in the vicinity. [AIP] |
