Abstract: |
A survey of Staddon Hill Camp was undertaken by the RCHME as part of its archaeological survey of East Exmoor. The site, which was a SAM, provided a well-preserved example of a hill-slope enclosure with two outworks. It was of a site-type usually attributed to the Iron Age, athough due to a lack of excavation and surface finds, this chronology could not be confirmed. A later field bank ran across the main enclosure at the site, and ridging in the interior of the enclosure and between the outworks was visible on aerial photographs. The earthworks were well-defined, although some erosion of the outer bank and ditches had occurred due to forestry plantation and trackways. Localised animal disturbance had also taken place. [AIP] |
