Abstract: |
An archaeological desktop study was carried out in advance of a proposed development. The area of the site would have been part of the medieval estate of St. James Priory until the 1540s and was under pasture or gardens until the mid 18th century when the first housing development occurred. The Georgian terraced housing fronting Dighton Street with gardens to the rear survived until the early 1960s. The study area was then redeveloped as substantial garage premises in 1963 and again as an office block in the 1980s. No historical structures survived above ground. [Au(adp)] |
