Abstract: |
A documentary assessment and visual inspection on land identified for opencasting revealed little of archaeological significance. The area is currently used as a coal disposal point as was formerly part of Widdrington colliery. Lying within the ancient township of Widdrington, the estate was farmed from three steadings, one of which lies within the study area. A small enclosure boundary marks the position of the Steading. A range of four houses remain from the former colliery but these do not appear to possess any historical or architectural interest. [Au(abr)] |
