Abstract: |
The archaeological impact of a residential development proposed for the site currently occupied by the Poplars Inn was evaluated by way of trial excavation and documentary research, with specific reference to a Quaker burial ground recorded on 18th century surveys. The report concluded that though undeniably established, surviving records of burials were ambiguous, and, moreover, as the recorded boundaries of the burial ground coincided with the terraced footprint of the inn, which was of 19th century construction, it was considered unlikely that burials would have survived intact.
