Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken of the site prior to its proposed development. The assessment indicated that the proposed development area was situated near to known medieval sites of archaeological significance. The site was also within the medieval and Saxon core of Belton and occupied the same plot of land that any Saxon or medieval dwelling would have occupied. Thefore the area was potentially of archaeological importance. There report concluded that further archaeological investigation may be required and suggested an appropriate scheme of the implemetation of a controlled watching brief during all groundworks associated with the development.
