Abstract
Excavations on the cist cemetery at Poltalloch, Argyll, 1960-62
Eric R Cregeen
Peter Harrington
19 - 28
NR 822974. Reports four EBA graves, three of which produced inhumations with a Clarke N2 Beaker, Food Vessels, and a plano-convex knife.
Field monuments on Machrie Moor, Arran
John W Barnatt
Stephen J Pierpoint
29 - 31
Preliminary account of field survey of the rich cluster of prehistoric sites, some newly discovered. A division into 'secular' and 'ceremonial' sites was indicated. Au(abr)
A Bronze Age burial mound at Holland, St Ola, Orkney
Nigel R J Neil
32 - 45
HY 477112. Excavation of one of a group of barrows revealed a primary cremation partly cut away by a later inhumation giving a 14C date of 1100-1300 BC (corrected). The site is similar to that at Quoyscottie and the burials appear contemporary with the burnt mounds. Au(abr)
Excavation of a Roman bath house at Bothwellhaugh, 1975-6
Lawrence J F Keppie
46 - 94
NS 731577. Complete excavation revealed Antonine use (AD 142-c 165) with three main phases, followed by squatter occupation with much animal bone (14C dates in 2nd-3rd centuries). A small native settlement underlay the bath house. Pottery, small finds. Au(adp)
Success as personified on a Roman intaglio
Martin Henig
71 - 73
Excavation of the cross base at Kilnave, Islay
John W Barber
95 - 102
NR 286715. From evidence at Kilnave it is argued that cross bases of cist type are generally late, 11th/12th century or even later. The cross itself had a tenoned foot left from some earlier mounting.
