(Presidential address.) This remarkable amateur endeavour was largely due to the efforts of A E Hudd FSA, of the Clifton Antiquarian Club, and indeed much of the work was funded from English rather than Welsh sources. Progress of the investigations is traced and some of the personalities involved (eg John Ward) discussed. Work continues at Caerwent, with goals unimaginable in Edwardian times.

Four long barrows and 50-55 round barrows have been discovered since the original catalogue in 1960, and are described together with corrections and amendments to it. Typology, chronology, numbers, distribution, structure, and ritual are reconsidered in view of these new sites, and other relevant information is provided. Nearly 180 ring ditches, some representing flattened round barrows, are listed, and concordances with other workers' publications are given. Au(abr)

Two 13th century parks of the Clares - Marlwood Park and Eastwood Park - are still traceable in the area of the Forest of Kingswood; mainly historical evidence.

Pottery of Shenberrow-Chastleton type (Upper Thames Valley) was recovered from dense surface scatter.

A building was found at the SW corner of the banqueting hall in the garden.

Most of the sites explored were religious houses; also med river bank and some vault-burials. A med Jewish inscription and Mikveh or ritual well were both first records for this country.
