Abstract: |
Reports the results of trial excavations intended to determine the origin and date of a mound. The lower of two trenches produced evidence primarily of medieval or later agricultural activity, while the upper trench revealed a prehistoric cairn covering the top of the mound, with a secondary turf structure on top of the cairn. Dateable material was scarce, but pottery indicates a probable BA date for the turf structure. A nearby boat naust was also investigated: it is probably medieval or early post-medieval in date. Appendices list contexts and finds (19--20). |
