Abstract
Legio VI and its men: African legionaries in Britain
Vivien G Swan
1 - 33
Marshalls the evidence, epigraphic and ceramic, for the movement of military personnel between North Africa and Britain at the end of the second and beginning of the third centuries - especially African-type pottery casseroles and head-pots (cf 94/428). Three appendices treat the pottery in detail.

Neil Holbrook
Paul T Bidwell
35 - 80
Reports pottery from excavations carried out since the closing date for their 1991 book, chiefly from fortress-period (ie Neronian-Flavian) deposits. There are discussions of the new dating evidence for the legionary fortress, the levelling of its defences (early-mid Antonine) and the construction of the town defences. Includes contributions on `The decorated samian ware' by G B Dannell (40-50), `The samian potters' stamps' by Brenda Dickinson (50-4), `Gallo-Belgic stamps' by V Rigby (55-6), `Amphorae' by D F Williams (56-62) and `Mortaria' by K F Hartley (62-5).

Roman pottery in South-East Wales: an introduction
Peter V Webster
111 - 121
A general picture, from the Neronian period to the late fourth century, more detailed than his 1990 review (in 92/478). Presents new thoughts on the first appearance of BB1 and the lack of change in the later fourth century. Appendices include a Caerleon Ware form-series and a revised date for a group previously published from Pumpsaint (87/1591).
