Abstract
Categorizing roundhouse settlements in Wales; a critical perspective
Eleanor Ghey
Nancy Edwards
Robert Johnston
1 - 25
Considers how the recent Welsh Roundhouse Project affects broadly accepted typological schemes for these sites. Reviews past approaches and argues that typological approaches have been significant in the interpretation of Welsh roundhouse structures. Argues that the results of the Roundhouse Project challenge these approaches, emphasising the diversity of construction methods and architectural forms through time. (PP-B)
Abertanat, Llansantffraid and Clawdd Coch; Barri Jones's excavations in Montgomeryshire
Robert J Silvester
27 - 54
Reports on three Roman military sites in Powys, drawing on the archive of material made available after Jones' death. Notes that this archive is lacking in conventional archaeological site data and that this is therefore not a full excavation report. Argues that the identification of the sites by Jones as Roman military establishments is by no means proven by the excavated evidence. (PP-B)
