Volume devoted to the history and products of a family business founded by Edward Pollock in Manchester in 1879 and maintained for 111 years until 1990 when his grandson, Gordon, sold the business. Substantial archive paperwork and old stock has provided a detailed record of a pipemaking company and factory. Illustrations and dating evidence are provided for the various marks and patterns of pipe that were used by three of the main Manchester firms and there are detailed accounts of the manufacturing and firing processes. Information is given on production figures, pay and labour conditions, trade unions and manufacturing costs, the family's connection with the business, employees who worked at the factory, advertising material and correspondence with other companies and individuals.
